Apex Legends launch options

Where to type launch options, the commands EA actually confirms, and the long list of community commands with what is known about each.

Which launch options work?

+fps_max and the render-thread pair

EA documents +fps_max to cap the frame rate, and its patch notes document -no_render_on_input_thread and -render_on_input_thread. Everything else is passed around by players, and EA's advice is to use the in-game settings where one exists. EA

Confirmed by EA

+fps_max <frame rate>
Caps the frame rate, for example +fps_max 144 on a 144 Hz monitor. EA warns a cap your PC can't hold can cause performance issues. EA doesn't state a maximum frame rate; the most it says is that a dip at very high FPS (240+) was fixed in May 2026. EA help · patch notes
-no_render_on_input_thread / -render_on_input_thread
Since 20 June 2025, rendering off the input thread is the default for CPUs with 8 or more cores. Players with fewer cores can turn it on with the first option; anyone can turn it off with the second. patch notes

Questions

How do I set launch options for Apex Legends?
In the EA app: Library, the three-dot menu on Apex Legends, View properties, then Advanced launch options. On Steam: right-click Apex Legends in your Library, Properties, General, then Launch Options.
How do I cap FPS in Apex Legends?
Add +fps_max followed by the frame rate to your launch options, for example +fps_max 144. EA warns that a cap set above what your PC can hold can cause performance issues.
What are the best launch options for Apex Legends?
Only two kinds are confirmed by EA: +fps_max to cap your frame rate, and -no_render_on_input_thread, which is already the default on CPUs with 8 or more cores. Everything else in circulating lists is unconfirmed or obsolete.
Does -novid still work in Apex Legends?
EA has never said. It is a player-shared command with no official documentation.
Do autoexec files work in Apex Legends?
Not as they used to. Respawn restricted +exec in February 2024 so config files can't be chained during a match.
How do I show FPS in Apex Legends?
Turn on Settings > Gameplay > Performance Display, which shows FPS and ping in the top right. On Steam you can also use Steam's own in-game FPS counter.
