How the guarantees work

How many Apex Packs for a guaranteed heirloom?
Heirloom Shards are guaranteed in the next pack once 499 packs have been opened without any — so by pack 500 at the latest. They can drop earlier at random.
How many Apex Packs for a guaranteed Legendary?
A Legendary is guaranteed in the next pack after 29 packs without one. This applies to standard Apex Packs only.

Both figures are the worst case, not the expected case — the guarantee is a floor under bad luck, and either can drop sooner. Packs never contain duplicates: an item you already own is converted to Crafting Metals instead.

We don't turn this into a "packs at level N" number. Working the bands through as written gives a total that doesn't match the 544 figure quoted alongside them — the two disagree at the source, so picking whichever reading looks tidiest and presenting it as fact would be inventing precision we don't have.
